Dr. Edmond Biba

Senior Principal Scientist, the General Chapters Department-Science Division, United States Pharmacopeial Convention

Dr. Edmond Biba is a Senior Principal Scientist in the General Chapters Department-Science Division at United States Pharmacopeial Convention. He serves as scientific liaison to the USP General Chapters-Chemical Analysis, Materials Physical Properties Characterization, and Pharmaceutical Analysis Lifecycle and Data Science Expert Committees. He is responsible for the development of several new USP-NF General Chapters, including a suite of chapters <1430> and <1430.X> on Analytical Methodologies Based on Scattering Phenomena, <1469> Nitrosamine Impurities, <430> Particle Size Analysis by Dynamic Light Scattering, and maintaining a portfolio of USP-NF General Chapters working with the USP Volunteers, Expert Committee/ Expert Panel members. General Chapter ⟨1058⟩ Analytical Instrument Qualification is one of the chapters in portfolio.

Since joining USP in 2001, he served as a scientist in the Research and Development Laboratory and in the Reference Standards Evaluation Department. Dr. Biba received his Ph.D. in Chemistry-Synthetic Organic Chemistry from the American University, Washington DC, and a B.Sc./M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from University of Tirana, Tirana, Albania. Dr. Biba is member of Sigma Xi – The Scientific Research Honor Society, American Chemical Society, and American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. He is USP’s representative to ICH’s Q3C(R10) Residual Solvents, and M7(R3) Mutagenic Impurities Working Groups, and to the Product Quality Technical Committee (PQTC) of the Product Quality Research Institute (PQRI).
